What are simethicone oral drops? (Back to top)
SIMETHICONE (Mylicon® Infant Drops, Genasyme® Drops, Flatulex® Drops, and others) is an antiflatulent used to treat too much gas in the stomach and intestines. Swallowing too much air or eating foods that disagree often causes gas. Generic simethicone oral drops are available.

What should I tell my health care provider before I take this medicine? (Back to top)
They need to know if you have any of these conditions:
•an unusual or allergic reaction to simethicone, other medicines, foods, dyes, or preservatives
•pregnant or trying to get pregnant
•breast-feeding

How should I take this medicine? (Back to top)
Take simethicone oral drops by mouth. Use the special dropper included with the medicine. For infants, the dosage can be mixed with one ounce of cool water, infant formula or other suitable liquids to ease administration. Follow the directions on the label. If your health care providers have given you special instructions, follow their directions instead of what is on the label. Do not take your medicine more often than directed.

Contact your pediatrician or health care professional regarding the use of this medicine in children. These drops are regularly recommended for use in children and infants.

What if I miss a dose? (Back to top)
If it is almost time for your next dose, take only that dose. Do not take double or extra doses.

What drug(s) may interact with simethicone? (Back to top)
•none reported

Tell your prescriber or health care professional about all other medicines you are taking, including non-prescription medicines, nutritional supplements, or herbal products. Also tell your prescriber or health care professional if you are a frequent user of drinks with caffeine or alcohol, if you smoke, or if you use illegal drugs. These may affect the way your medicine works. Check with your health care professional before stopping or starting any of your medicines.

What side effects may I notice from taking simethicone? (Back to top)
There are no reported side effects with simethicone.

What should I watch for while taking simethicone? (Back to top)
In general, simethicone is a very safe drug. Tell your health care prescriber if your symptoms get worse, or if you have severe pain, diarrhea, constipation, or blood in your stool.

Where can I keep my medicine? (Back to top)
Keep out of the reach of children in a container that small children cannot open.

Store at room temperature between 15 and 30 degrees C (59 and 86 degrees F). Keep container tightly closed. Throw away any unused medicine after the expiration date.
